Friday, October 2 – Luther Chapel: Blessing of Beginning for Vicar Kathryn Thompson

Luther College Pastor Anne Edison-Albright will preach a “Blessing of Beginning” for Vicar Kathryn Thompson on Friday, October 2 at 10:30 am.  The chapel services are held via Zoom.  Streaming links are available on Luther’s online events calendar.

Live Jazz Concert on Friday, September 18, 6:30 pm, Good Shepherd’s Backyard

 Good Shepherd and our church neighbors are invited to enjoy an evening of live music in the Good Shepherd back yard on Friday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m.!

Jon Ailabouni will be performing alongside a jazz quintet including some of his favorite musicians in the region:

  • Simon Harding – Saxophone, Jazz Band director at Wartburg College
  • Larry Price – Piano, Jazz Combo director at Winona State University
  • Karyn Quinn – Bass, former Director of Jazz Studies at University of Wisconsin – La Crosse
  • Rich MacDonald – Drum Set, former Director of Jazz Studies at Winona State University
    The group will perform an hour long program that includes Jon’s arrangements of jazz standards, a hymn, and his original composition “You Are Not Alone”.Please wear a mask and observe safe distancing throughout the performance. Similar to our outdoor communion services, plan to bring a chair or blankets to sit on. The gathering will be limited to 100 people.  The rain date for this performance is Saturday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m. A free will offering will be taken to provide an honorarium for musicians and support the local Mutual Aid Network Fund.

Blessed Be the Memory of Connie Bolson

Constance “Connie” H. Bolson, age 96, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 28 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

Private Family Burial will be on Saturday, August 29 at Union Prairie Cemetery in Decorah with Pastor Amy Larson officiating.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life for Connie will be held at a later date.  A full obituary may be found at the Fjelstul Funeral Home website.

Ready, Set, Vote!

Register to Vote

To register to vote, you can (1) Get paper voter-registration forms at the County Court House, where you can register in-person. (2) Download registration forms and register to vote online at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. Or, (3) Register online, and check on/update your voter registration, at Vote.org.

  • OCTOBER 23 is the last day for in-person voter registration, online registration, and for paper registrations to be received by the County Auditor.

Vote by Mail with an Absentee Ballot

Every registered Iowa voter will receive an Absentee Ballot Request form (not the Absentee Ballot itself) in the mail. You can also pick up the absentee ballot request form at the County Court House. Carefully fill it out, making sure the information is correct. Sign the form and return in envelope provided.

  • OCTOBER 5. Absentee Ballots are mailed to voters who requested them. In-person absentee voting (early voting) begins at the Court House.
  • OCTOBER 19. Mail your absentee ballot on or before October 19. This assures it will be delivered on-time.

***Instead of mailing your marked, sealed absentee ballot, consider putting in the drop box at the west entrance of the Winneshiek County Court House. Do this on or before November 2.***

 

Younger Poll-Workers Needed!
Since poll workers tend to be older and at higher risk for COVID19 infection, younger workers are needed to staff the polls on November 3. Poll workers must be registered to vote. You can register to vote if you will turn 18 on or before November 3, 2020. Poll workers receive training and are paid. Call Ben Steines, Winneshiek County Auditor, (563-382-5085) to express interest.

October 5–November 2. Early, in-person, voting available at the Auditor’s Office in the County Courthouse.

November 3. General Election. Polls open from 7 a.m.–9 p.m.
