Stoles and Linens Dedicated on May 22

Five new woven stoles, designed, woven and donated by congregation member Barbara Berg, were dedicated on Sunday, May 22.  Also dedicated were two new altar linens, hand-sewn and embroidered by Berg, Jeri Laursen, and Carrie Solberg.  Solberg also sewed and embroidered new communion bread covers.  Berg presented an Adult Forum on Sunday explaining the history of liturgical colors using the hymnals as primary sources.

History of Liturgical Colors – Adult Forum, May 22

The History of Liturgical Colors Using the Hymnal Adult Forum will be presented by congregation member and artist, Barbara Berg, at 10:45 am Sunday, May 22.  The history of the use of paraments, including the colors and symbols, will be discussed using the Lutheran hymnals as primary sources.  That same Sunday, the five new stoles Barbara has designed, woven and donated will be dedicated.  Two new altar linens, hand sewn and embroidered by Barbara, Jeri Laursen, and Carrie Solberg, will also be dedicated at the same service.

My Neighbor Is Muslim: Exploring the Muslim Faith

The final session of this study-discussion series will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 6:00-7:00 pm,  focusing on Chapter VII, Islamic State with Lyle Otte as leader. The final session will be held in Good Shepherd’s Fellowship Hall. Participants are welcome to bring their own simple supper.

This study-discussion series resource was developed in 2015 by Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota (LSS) to help Lutherans in the state welcome Muslim neighbors. Lutheran Immigration and Refugees Services (LIRS) now provides this resource to congregations and discussion groups throughout the country.  The resource can be downloaded or a free print copy ordered from LIRS: lirs.org/myneighborismuslim
