Ministry Support Coordinator Position Description

Position Summary: The Ministry Support Coordinator oversees and manages the church office and collaborates with the staff and members of the congregation to support the ministries of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Coordinator will often be the primary contact person among congregational members, community members, business affiliates, and others and plays an important role in welcoming them. The Coordinator serves as an information hub for the congregation and has a key role in facilitating formal communications among its members and the community.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Information Management: Maintains the church member database, mailing lists and church calendar.  Serves as the information hub for congregation and community.  Responds to phone, email, and in-person inquiries and requests during church office hours.
  • Communication Support: Serves as webmaster for the congregation; produces bulletins, newsletters, annual reports, and other regular congregational publications and mailings.  Oversees scheduling/posting to church social media platforms.
  • Office Management: Oversees office systems and equipment.  Orders supplies (office, cleaning, worship).  Manages licensing and compliance paperwork.  Schedules rooms and meetings.  Coordinates office volunteers.
  • Ministry Support: Works collaboratively with staff; facilitates staff communication; provides needed staff and member support for programming and events; manages weekly bank deposit; assists with worship volunteer coordination.
  • Hospitality: Serves as the outward face of the congregation and its front-line contact. Welcomes visitors, congregants, and members of the community.  Serves as the communication liaison to Kinderhaus and other groups using the church building and grounds.


  • Technical expertise: Experience with Microsoft Office, web-based databases and social media platforms for business purposes, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. Willingness to learn additional systems and platforms.

  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to convey a positive image and build positive relationships with others both in person and via phone, email, and social media
  • Ability to communicate professionally and tactfully with staff, congregation members and the public
  • Sensitivity to private affairs in order to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to contribute to a positive working atmosphere in a team-based setting that supports the congregation’s mission

Organizational Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task, balance and focus on priorities
  • Willingness to work regular hours while maintaining some flexibility in response to the needs of the congregation

Employment Information

The Ministry Support Coordinator reports directly to and is supervised by the Pastor. An annual performance review will be conducted by the Pastor and members of the Executive Committee.

Pay is $17-20/hour (commensurate with experience).

Work is 20 hours/week but may increase periodically based on church programming.

This position is eligible for training and professional development and other employer contributions. The position does not include medical insurance.
